Paternò, the train from Catania passes the baton to the bus: to allow for the work on the Metro

Last day of operation was yesterday for the train on the Catania Borgo – Paternò route.

From tomorrow, in fact, the train service will be replaced with a bus, an improvement in road connections from Paternò to the CT-Nesima Metro station; in the next few weeks the bus will stop at the Monte Po e Fontana station near the Garibaldi hospital.

A suspension of the train to allow the construction of the new Misterbianco-Paternò metro line. And yesterday, on the occasion of the last journey of the littorina, the leaders of SiciliAntica Paternò, led by the president Giuseppe Scandurra, organized with a gathering from the Borgo-Catania station, a farewell journey to the initial section of the route that develops around the volcano highest in Europe. “SiciliAntica hopes that no further amputations of the over one hundred year old route will be foreseen and that, indeed, what in all respects is a historic railway, can also be re-evaluated from a tourist perspective – we read in a note on the association’s Facebook page – It would be appropriate plan trips on Sundays and holidays (which is not currently foreseen), using buses in the canceled sections. Finally, as numerous toll booths are abandoned, also to avoid their deterioration, SiciliAntica proposes itself as a bailee of some of them in the municipalities where it is present along the route (Catania, Misterbianco, Belpasso Paternò, Santa Maria di Licodia, Biancavilla Adrano, Bronte, Maletto, Randazzo , Castiglione, Linguaglossa, Mascali, Giarre and Riposto) to be used as a registered office and cultural activities”.
