“Maybe he was watching a movie.” The suspect behind the Flixbus accident on the A1

We are once again talking about the terrible accident that occurred on March 25th Flixbus buses crashing into the guard rail while he was traveling along a stretch of the A1, between Modena Sud and Valsamoggia, to be precise at kilometer 174. Due to the impact, numerous travelers who were on board were injured, and a 19-year-old Congolese boy years, a certain Vindou Illumine Junior Kersant, had lost his life. The Modena prosecutor’s office, which is conducting investigations into the case, is trying to clarify the position of thedriver of the medium.

A movie on your smartphone?

The investigators’ suspicion is that the driver of the Flixbus was watching a film about smartphones and therefore was not paying due attention to the roadway. For this reason, an expert opinion on the cell phone was recently ordered. The focus, therefore, is entirely on the driver originally from Alatri, currently under investigation for vehicular homicide. Many hypotheses are being examined by investigators, from a risky maneuver to mechanical failure, to falling asleep. The journey ahead, moreover, was long (Milan-Rome).

A passenger of the vehicle, however, declared that he had seen the light from the screen of a mobile phone coming from the driving position, which would put the driver in trouble. The beam of light, among other things, would have been noticed a few minutes before the impact. So was the driver keeping his eyes on his phone rather than on the road? This is the question investigators want to answer. A computer engineer he has therefore been appointed by the Modena prosecutor’s office and will be responsible for examining the defendant’s device.

The information available

At the moment we know that the driver tested negative for drug and alcohol tests. Even the speed was correct: 95 kilometers per hour, therefore within the permitted limit. Even the hypothesis of falling asleep, denied by the driver himself, remains the trail of the distraction. One of the passengers is convinced he saw a light beam from the driver’s seat. Perhaps the Flixbus driver was not keeping his eyes on the road and for that reason he would not have avoided the accident.

Hence the importance of examining the memory of the cell phone, so as to

trace all the operations carried out on the device at that moment. The man is represented by the lawyer Giampiero Velluci, who instead requested a technical assessment on the motorway protective barriers.
