Another sprint finish in the SSP300, this time Mahendra gets the better of Buis and Iglesias (still leading the world championship).

As usual, Supersport 300 is a very spectacular class, perhaps too much so. Seeing so many drivers attempting often very risky overtaking is good for the show, but not for the safety issue. Misano, however, seems to be a suitable track for the category.
The third round of the Supersport 300 World Championship, the 2024 Emilia-Romagna Round at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, ends with Race 2. The young people will have to try to give their best on a technical track, where it is easy to overtake. Predicting the winner is practically impossible.
The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli was inaugurated in 1972. The then Santa Monica Autodrome has undergone numerous changes over the years, which have enlarged and modernized it. The current shape and meaning are the result of a major renovation which took place in 2007. The main layout, 4,200 km long and characterized by short straights interspersed with long sequences of curves, 16 in total, 10 on the right and 6 on the left, does not undergo changes since 2008. The series skipped the stop in Emilia Romagna only in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are 34 drivers competing. The two wild cards from Assen, Van den Hoven and Czarowski, do not renew their commitment to Misano. The external entries on the main grid, both on Kawasaki, are Matteo Bonetti of MRT Corse and Nicola Piazzi of MGIM Corse. The two participate full-time in the CIV Supersport 300.
The race
Svoboda and Mogeda have to miss Game 2 due to injuries. The Czech suffered a fracture to his left tibia in Saturday’s race, while Mogeda suffered, again due to a fall, damage to the tendons in his left hand and a bruise to his left ribs.
Gennai gets off to a good start, but, as usual, the first lap is anything but calm. The lead is contested between Buis and Garcia Gonzalez, who manages to overtake the KTM Dutchman at Carro. At this point Agazzi, Manso and Tragni fall. Only the latter retreats immediately, while the other two continue.
Buis and Osuna Saez prevailed on the second lap over Garcia Gonzalez, who returned to the Quercia in the following lap. The Deza-Box driver drops in the rankings due to the aggressiveness of Salvador and Bartolini. The boy from Kove is also in crisis: at the Curvone he loses his position over the reigning champion, while at the Variante del Parco and the Rio he is also overtaken by Bartolini and Salvador.
Iglesias Bravo shows up on lap 4. The winner of Race 1 breaks away very late and overtakes everyone from behind the scenes at the Quercia, only to close the passage in third. The Spaniard, however, will not remain at the top for long, given that Garcia Gonzalez and Salvador manage to impose themselves on everyone, Buis first and foremost. At the same time, Plazzi was given a double long lap for an early start.
The screening of participants begins. On the fifth lap Garcia Gonzalez is overtaken at the Quercia by Buis and Salvador. The Spaniard from Kove also lost positions on the comebacks Iglesias Bravo and Bartolini al Carro. The Italian, however, does not maintain the square incisively and is overtaken at the Rio on the next pass by Mahendra.
Iglesias tries to go ahead of everyone in the sixth round, and succeeds at the Quercia. Buis, however, doesn’t give up and returns to the front of the Curvone. Mahendra also surpasses the Spaniard at the Carro. The Indonesian’s intentions become clear in the following seconds.
At the first braking point of the seventh lap Mahendra overtakes Buis, who returns to the lead at Tramonto. At the end of the passage Iglesias Bravo climbs up and returns to first place. The Dutchman also loses position on Salvador and Garcia Gonzalez.
Iglesias Bravo and Mahendra try to escape at the start of the ninth lap, but struggle despite deciding not to fight each other. During this phase Vannucci and Fleming retreat to the garage, while Di Sora falls at Tramonto.
On lap 11 Buis returns to the leading duo and overtakes Mahendra at the Carro. The Dutchman, at the same point but four kilometers later, also overtakes Iglesias Bravo and returns to first position. The Indonesian, however, doesn’t want to lose. After overtaking the Kawasaki Spaniard at the last right-hand bend, the BrCorse boy chases the reigning champion and overtakes him at Misano 2.
Aldi Satya Mahendra wins Race 2 of Supersport 300 at Misano. The Indonesian from BrCorse is accompanied on the podium by Jeffrey Buis and Inigo Iglesias Bravo. Pratama, Gaggi, Salvador, Osuna Saez, Bartolini, Garcia, Gennai, Ercolani, Veneman, Ieraci, Seabright and Bolano Hernandez finish the points.
Aldi Satya Mahendra knows what he’s doing. The Indonesian finally manages to obtain a victory, the most important element for fighting in a championship like Supersport 300, in which consistency serves, very often, only as a marginal element in being able to compete.

The program in Misano continues with race 2 of Superbike (2.00 pm), Supersport (3.15 pm), Yamaha R3 bLU cRU World Cup (4.15 pm) and the only Aprilia RS 660 Trophy (5.00 pm). The young drivers will go on holiday before moving to the Autodrom Most, home of the Czechia Round, the fourth on the calendar, to be held from 19 to 21 July. The Supersport 300, as usual, will take to the track together with Superbike and Supersport.
