The motive for the double murder that occurred yesterday in the Caserta area, where the two brothers Marco and Claudio Marrandino, aged 40 and 29 respectively, were killed in a shootout, appears to be linked to disagreements over economic issues. The two men, both without a criminal record and originally from Cesa, died after being wounded by several gunshots, fired – according to initial reconstructions – by a 53-year-old worker, also without a criminal record. The hypotheses of an impulsive act, linked to questions of validity, or a calculated crime are also being examined, but the economic motive seems to be the most plausible.
The double murder in the street
The double murder occurred between Orta di Atella, in the province of Caserta, and Succivo, in the Astragata area. Marco and Claudio Marrandino were aboard a white BMW, while the 53-year-old worker suspected of the double murder was in his car. According to what some witnesses reported, the three started arguing. While the first of the two brothers was killed inside the vehicle, the second, Claudio Marrandino, attempted to escape, but was also shot outside the car. The bodies of the two brothers were found by a police crew that was on patrol in that area and who heard the shots. The soldiers also saw the killer fleeing, but managed to intercept him and stop him shortly afterwards. The Carabinieri of Marcianise and those of the provincial command of Caserta, led by Colonel Manuel Scarso, are busy reconstructing the story. The hypothesis of a Camorra ambush has currently been ruled out.

The victims, the brothers Marco and Claudio Marrandino, aged 40 and 29, were well known in Cesa, the city where they originally came from. Marco Marrandino, a lawyer, had in the past held the position of president of the municipal council, elected with a civic list, while his brother, Claudio, was an entrepreneur in the construction sector.
