Terramàne promotes roots tourism

Mosciano Sant’Angelo, 16 June 2024. Terramàne, Colline Verdi d’Abruzzo, on the occasion of its 1st birthday, wanted to support an extraordinary event, the “Family Rooting Experience in Mosciano Sant’Angelo” which celebrated the link between past and present through roots tourism

The exciting event “Family Rooting Experience in Mosciano Sant’Angelo” has ended, it is the first action of the Gal Terreverdi Teramane on Roots Tourism in collaboration with the Municipality of Mosciano Sant’Angelo, the Pro Loco Musiano and the Association Italy Rooting Consulting.

This event featured the Italian Americans, Italia Senese Oliver and his son Jessiah Thomas Lee returning for the first time from the State of California following in the footsteps of their ancestors in Mosciano Sant’Angelo.

The meeting is an event that falls within the theme of Roots Tourism in 2024 which has been proclaimed the “Year of Italian Roots”. Last June 13th and 14th, Italia and her son Jessiah had a true full immersion in the culture of Abruzzo among tourist and food and wine destinations and concluded their stay in Mosciano Sant’Angelo with a large inclusive party in which the entire local community participated , with music and shows.

Terramàne, which is a destination waiting to be discovered, on the occasion of its first birthday, wanted to support this event which represents a unique opportunity to rediscover one’s origins, learn about the stories of ancestors and rediscover family ties that time and distance do not they canceled.

With its enchanting landscape and its rich history, Terramàne has revealed itself in these two days as the ideal place for a trip that goes beyond simple tourism, becoming an unforgettable life experience. This event was not just a family gathering, but a celebration of cultural, spiritual, food and wine heritage and identity offering an experience that enriches the heart and soul.

Terramàne, Green Hills of Abruzzo, is made up of 21 Municipalities, where each village tells a story made of passion, resilience and love for its land and together they offer a unique combination of natural beauty, ancient traditions and a warm sense of community.

“Root Tourism is one of Terramàne’s many initiatives to promote sustainable and authentic tourism, which enhances the people and stories that make this area special” – said President Pasquale Cantoro and added “Gal Terreverdi Teramane is always close and ready to support the territory to accompany it in its development and valorisation”.

For the visit to Mosciano Sant’Angelo, the ItalyRooting Consulting company implemented the integrated “Rooting Experience Planning” model and involved, in addition to the Gal, the Municipality and the Proloco, which promoted a series of reception initiatives for make the most of the immersive experience of discovery and travel of Italy and her son.

A year ago Italia Senese contacted Letizia Sinisi, owner of ItalyRooting Consulting, a company specialized in experiences and culture of roots. Meticulous genealogical research has made it possible to reconstruct one hundred years of history of this family and has been supported in recent months by a tourism project, set up in collaboration with Borghi Italia Tour Network, which, for the stop in Mosciano, involved the tour operator Living Italy.

ItalyRooting Consulting is in fact an Italian organization based in Rome that offers services by acting as a “re”connection bridge with Italy and with the Italian roots of the many generations of natives around the world.

The welcome to Italia and her son included special surprises that made every single day memorable, such as the stop at the Municipality of Mosciano where the mayor Giuliano Galiffi welcomed them warmly. The program includes meetings with rediscovered relatives, visits to familiar places, but also tourist and cultural experiences, moments of food and wine and a big party last night at the Convent of the Santi Sette Fratelli where the entire local community wanted to participate with music and cuisine typical with a traditional Moscianese menu.

“This party represented the right setting for Terramàne’s first birthday. Moments like these help to strengthen the concept – concluded the director of Gal Terreverdi Teramane Rosalia Montefusco – but perhaps more so the feeling that animates local communities. These are moments that go beyond the realization of a project. Working within the Municipality, Proloco and Gal network is the best model that allows territories like ours to try their hand beyond the classic activities in which each of us is engaged and therefore on broader projects. To return to the event of the evening it was full of emotions and with a strong dose of emotion, furthermore we were able to blow out this first candle of Terramàne with Italia and Jessiah who will bring this memory with them to the United States and Jessiah announced that among his future projects there will certainly be a return to Mosciano Sant’Angelo but also the desire to have a place to live”.
