BELLUNO – AND died on the night between 14 and 15 June the unforgettable mayor Alfredo Iannelli, 85 years old. Born in Fonzaso, born in 1939, he was mayor continuously from 1995 to 2004. He lived in via Lucco Zadra, near the parish church square. The news of the death of the historic mayor, who was also a director in the Province, immediately spread throughout the town, leaving everyone astonished. His deputy mayor at the time, Gianluigi Furlin, who lives nearby and of whom he was a teacher in political life, remembers him with emotion and almost incredulity. «I joined the municipal administration of Fonzaso with him, succeeding maestro Bortolo Susin in June 1995 – the words of Gianluigi Furlin -. And with him I began my long career as administrator of the municipality of Fonzaso.”
THE PROFILE
«Alfredo Iannelli had been head of the Tourist Office of the Province of Belluno for many years – continues Furlin, who in turn was mayor -. So he came from a long administrative experience and knew the Province in all its ins and outs and remote places.” He is moved when he talks about a great man from Fonzaso both in terms of culture and work experience: «He was mayor for two terms: the first lasted 4 years from 1995 to 1999, the second from 1999 to 2004. He was a man of profound classical culture who knew Latin and spoke it if he wanted. He was always very faithful to the rules of the institutions and did not go beyond a comma. He was very capable in writing, in fact it was not necessary to correct his writings or even his administrative documents. I remember him as a great fan of the countryside. When he had some free time he was there on his fields cultivating.” «After him I took over as mayor for another 10 years. I learned from him how to be a mayor – underlines Gianluigi Furlin -. He was a great teacher of mine.”
THE MOURNING
In the evening the epigraphs announcing the funeral appeared: they will be held on Tuesday 18 June at 4.30 pm in the church of Fonzaso. The rosary will be held in church on Monday at 8pm. «He had been married to Maria Furlin who died in 2019 – recalls the former mayor Furlin -. He leaves a brother named Enzo in Bassano del Grappa, a sister named Lucia, who lives here in Fonzaso and worked in the town’s post office, his daughter Susanna married the owner of the bar in the municipal square. He also leaves behind a son Diego, a hydraulic engineer in the Bim-Gsp and a daughter called Anna, also an engineer, but in the IT field.” He will not send flowers but any donations will be donated to the Palliative Care Association of Feltre.
