Six prisoners for terrorism, accused of belonging to ISIS, were arrested two prison guards held hostage of the pre-trial detention center of Rostov. According to Tass, citing the police, the hostages, one of whom is said to be handcuffed, are an operational officer and an inspector-supervisor.
The kidnappers are in the courtyard of the center and are armed with a knife, a rubber truncheon and a fire axe, the police told Tass. However, the situation is said to be under control, while negotiations to free the hostages are underway. The inmates ask for a car to leave the center.
According to the authorities, the prisoners were held in different cells, but there was a connection between them and the hostage-taking had been in preparation for several months. An investigation is underway to understand whether the action was coordinated from the outside. The head of the Russian Federal Penitentiary Service for the Rostov region, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor’s office are present at the scene of the accident. Traffic has been limited in the streets adjacent to the pre-trial detention center and the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management is asking motorists to choose alternative routes.
