Our docufilm on the flood at the Eden cinema

A year has passed since the lands of nearby Romagna were devastated by the flood. A disaster that occurred not far from us and that affected everyone: many Carpi residents, in fact, in those days of May 2023 voluntarily went to the most damaged municipalities, equipped with shovels and rubber boots, to lend a hand and unite to the army of ‘mud angels’. A tragedy that cannot and must not be forgotten: on Wednesday at 9.15pm, ‘I Saw the End of the World – The Tale of the Flood’, the docufilm directed by Valerio Baroncini, will be screened at the Eden cinema in Carpi for the first time in the Modena area. , deputy director of ‘Il Resto del Carlino’, and Marco Santangelo, journalist, were among the first to rush to the most affected places.

The film is accompanied by the soundtrack by composer Marco Reno Solferini and was made with the support of the Bcc of Ravenna, Forlì and Imola. An iconic image was chosen for the poster of the docufilm, a shot by photographer Stefano Tedioli, which went around the world as a symbol of the tragedy and at the same time of the extraordinary solidarity shown in those days. Two men who together face the force of the water to save themselves. Despair in their eyes. They are Giacinto Bosi, 82 years old, and Giulio Nicolò, a carabiniere on duty in Faenza: Giulio, like a fury, fights against the violence of the water and, on his shoulders, carries Giacinto who is holding on to this giant trying to protect the four things taken away from a house that has become a trap, and protected, in that putrid, brown and threatening sea, by a small plastic bag.

After the sold-out tour in the cinemas of Bologna and Romagna, our documentary returns to theaters and stops in Carpi, where the directors Baroncini and Santangelo will be present at the screening. Specifically, the vision in our city was realized thanks to the collaboration of the manager of Eden and the support of the Lions Club Carpi Host which allowed the evening to be free.

“We immediately chose to support this project – explains Marco Arletti, president of the Lions Carpi Host – because it is a sign of closeness to the territory and to our Romagna ‘cousins’. Furthermore, it allows us to keep attention high on what has dramatically happened and to leave a trace in history. As a Club we have carried out two initiatives: we immediately started a fundraiser, and this year, with our ‘twin’ club of San Daniele, we helped a historic activity near Lugo, ‘ Il Forno’, an inn-restaurant, to restart its business”. Nicola Galli, responsible for the programming of the Eden cinema and the Corso, underlines “the community aspect of this project, which will be an opportunity to rework together a mournful piece of our history. It is important to have given voice to the people, the protagonists, to those who experienced that drama and who must absolutely not be forgotten.”
