The time has come for retirement for Foglia, a dog from the canine unit of the Prato fire brigade command, who after six years spent in rescue operations in Italy and abroad is greeted affectionately by all her human colleagues. Trained by the expert policeman Luca Martino, she entered service in February 2018, immediately distinguishing herself for her promptness, effectiveness and interpersonal skills.
The rescues
Her specialty is underground research: she was in fact the protagonist of the interventions on the collapse of the Morandi viaduct and on the A26 in Liguria. She was also valiant in surface searches, such as in the case of the rescue of a group of students who were lost in the Garfagnana mountains, where a boy who risked hypothermia was able to save himself by hugging the dog tightly.
Also protagonist in Albania during rescue operations after the earthquake that hit the northern area of the country in 2019.
On June 13, Foglia took leave of the fire brigade and was preparing to enjoy her rest, being greeted by her fellow firefighters who gathered to pay homage to her in a touching ceremony.
