Maiori, death of Raffaele Capone: investigation into the causes of the tragic death

The community of Maiori is affected by the tragic death of Mr. Raffaele Capone, which occurred on June 10 at the Santa Maria della Speranza hospital in Battipaglia, after more than 28 days of struggle in intensive care. His death deeply shocked the residents, leaving sadness and disbelief.

The tragic accident occurred on May 13, when Mr. Capone, 90 years old, slipped on an oil slick while descending the “Scale Sante” of the Collegiate Church, near his temporary home due to work underway at the family’s historic building in Piazza D’Amato. The strong impact caused a serious effusion on the skull, which required immediate medical intervention.

The 118 emergency services urgently transported him to the “San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d’Aragona” hospital in Salerno, where he underwent surgery for a craniotomy. After a period of improvement, he was transferred for rehabilitation to a specialized center in Piana del Sele. Unfortunately, his state of health suddenly worsened, forcing his subsequent admission to Battipaglia Hospital, where he unfortunately lost his life.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Salerno has launched an investigation into the accident, ordering an autopsy to determine the precise causes of death. The body was returned to the family for the funeral which will be held tomorrow, Sunday 16 June, at 5pm in the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria a Mare in Maiori.

The loss of Raffaele Capone was deeply felt by the local community, which rallied around the family in this moment of pain.
