Dinghy accident, 26-year-old Navy officer originally from Grosseto dies

Mortal accident in the waters of the La Maddalena archipelago, in Sardinia. Yesterday night, Friday 14 June 2024, Peter Stipa, Navy officer just 26 years originally from Argentario (Grosseto), he lost his life while taking a dinghy ride with his girlfriend.

The reconstruction

According to what has been reconstructed at the moment, Stipa and his girlfriend left around 4 am from the port and after a few minutes, for reasons yet to be ascertained, they were ended up with the boat against the rocks which emerge in front of the island of Santo Stefano, a passage known by all to be particularly insidious.

The young man has beaten with his head on the rockslosing consciousness and then ending up in the sea, where he would lose his life drowning. Despite the immense shock, it was the girl herself who raised the alarm. The Coast Guard intervened on site, arriving from the port of Cala Gavetta, which – after about an hour of searches – recovered the victim’s body on the seabed.

Pietro Stipa belonged to the SDAI Nucleus (Demining Defense Against Treacherous Vehicles) based on the island and was considered a real man Of sea, with great navigation experience and in-depth knowledge of the places in the archipelago thanks to his work in the Navy. The girl, resident in La Maddalena, however, remained unharmed in the accident. The body is now in the morgue on the Sardinian island.
