This morning, Saturday 15 June, a serious road accident shook Via Cristoforo Colombo in Rome, causing the death of a twenty-six year old boy and the injury of a thirty-four man. The accident occurred while the city was preparing for Pride 2024. Several vehicles were involved in the collision, the causes of which are still being investigated by the local police of Roma Capitale.

Details of the accident

The accident occurred around 4.30am, involving two motorbikes – a Piaggio Beverly and a Kawasaki Z900 – and a Ford Fiesta car. The collision occurred at the intersection with Via di Acilia, in the direction of Ostia. The impact was violent: the twenty-six year old on the Kawasaki was thrown from the motorbike, dying instantly. The driver of the Piaggio, a thirty-four year old, was transported to the GB Grassi hospital in Ostia and, fortunately, is not in serious condition.

On-site interventions

The patrols of the local police of Rome Capital, XII Monteverde Group, intervened to carry out the findings and investigate the dynamics of the accident. The driver, a twenty-one year old, was subjected to an alcohol test and tested negative. The accident caused significant traffic disruption, with the temporary closure of via Cristoforo Colombo in the direction of Ostia, between Malafede and Acilia. The patrols of the X Sea Group and the Traffic Emergency Group worked to secure the area and manage the traffic.
