Simona Truppo takes over from Riccardo Perisi

The Genoa Police Headquarters greeted the Digos director Riccardo Perisi, recently promoted ‘for extraordinary merits’ to senior director of the State Police. In his place Simona Truppo who, in the past, for many years, worked alongside him in the same delicate division.

Dr. Perisi joined the Police in 1994 as Deputy Inspector and began his career at the Genoa Flying Squad in the anti-drug section, also carrying out investigations of an international profile. In 1999, at the end of the deputy commissioner course, he was assigned to the Biella Police Headquarters, where he assumed the functions of Chief of Staff.

In March 2001 he returned to Genoa and, after a few months spent at UPG and SP, he arrived at Digos as head of the information section, where he managed demonstrations and public order events in the city. Since 2009 he has held the role of head of the anti-terrorism section, until 2019 when he was promoted and appointed director of Digos. A high-profile investigator, he has conducted many important investigations, including the one that led to the identification of the perpetrators of the attack on the CEO of Ansaldo Nucleare, Roberto Adinolfi.

The promotion for extraordinary merits decided by the public security department is the deserved recognition for having directed and completed one of the most important investigative activities to combat international terrorism carried out on Italian territory.

The operation, which concluded in June 2022, made it possible to identify and dismantle a terrorist cell of Pakistani citizens who operated both in Italy and in other European countries and connected to a larger network called the ‘Gabar Group’, in turn linked to a of the Charlie Hebdo attackers.

From the beginning of the investigation, Dr. Perisi understood that the investigative elements, collected until then, could not be traced back to mere apologetic propaganda, but were directed towards a dangerous international terrorist association. He thus created an investigative task force in the Police Headquarters and started an information flow with the central management of the Prevention Police, Europol and eleven Digos, in an unprecedented operational synergy.

The police commissioner of Genoa, Silvia Burdese, thanked Doctor Perisi for the high professionalism expressed in the area, always in synergy with the other police forces and at the disposal of the judicial authorities. He underlined his great capacity for listening, dialogue and mediation, exercised in different and often complex city scenarios, in particular public order, which has made it possible to maximize every possible form of conflict mitigation and prevention, to protect the primary good of the social cohesion. On behalf of all his colleagues, the commissioner wished the new senior manager Perisi and the new manager Digos, Truppo good work in their respective roles.
