A beautiful and particular golden spear. The one dedicated to Giorgio Vasari and presented yesterday morning in the Municipality. In designing the work, the artist Giovanni Frangi, one of the greatest exponents of contemporary art in Italy, was inspired by the detail of the serpent coiled around the tree in the Allegory of the Immaculate Conception, a painting by Vasari kept in the Uffizi, while in completing the work Francesco Conti took inspiration from the painting “The first fruits of the Earth are offered to Saturn” in Palazzo Vecchio. The hilt is made of lime wood which Vasari defined as “the best of all woods because it has equal pores and obeys the file and chisel more easily”.
“In the auction – explained Conti – I wanted to bring back his self-portrait and then sculpture, architecture and painting, or rather the three daughter arts of drawing which he discussed in his treatise. Then we find the symbols of Arezzo, the model that is at Casa Vasari, the Logge Vasari and the symbols of Florence the Uffizi and a glimpse of Palazzo Vecchio there are pink parts of very rare wood that recall the ceilings of Casa Vasari. Pure gold and white gold. We exaggerated a little but the importance of the figure required it.”
