Today was supposed to be a special day for the little girl, her deepest wish came true: to be baptized and become Catholic. The 10 year old girl was supposed to receive the sacrament at 6.30 pm in the Blessed Virgin Mary church of Villa Carmine, and then she would also receive Communion, as she had expressly asked the parish priest Don Valentino Iezzi. “I had spoken to the mother and daughter a few days ago and the little girl was very happy to receive the baptism” says the priest. Today the ceremony was scheduled because her little girl also wanted to share religion and catechism with her friends. For this reason, mother and daughter had been prepared to receive the sacrament by a couple of preparators.
THE MEETING
The parish priest’s two collaborators had had a meeting with the woman and the little girl on Wednesday, the day before the tragic event, and had been surprised by the condition of the young mother who appeared to be in difficulty, with psychological fragility, so much so that she postponed everything until the following day. The next day, Thursday, the woman no longer answered her phone. She was already at the station with her daughter. The enormous tragedy, which no one could have foreseen, had already occurred with that jump onto the tracks where the Frecciarossa ran for Milan. With her the mother brought the little girl she was holding by the hand. For them there was no escape.
The city of Montesilvano is in shock. The tragic death of mother and daughter, hit at the Montesilvano station, is an inexplicable gesture for everyone. Happening on the feast day of the patron saint, Sant’Antonio, the heartbreaking news shook the participants in the procession, including the deputy mayor Paolo Cilli: «Having learned of the shocking facts that came from the train station, which affects us deeply, once we returned to the church we all gathered in prayer around the destroyed family and in memory of the two victims, on the initiative of the parish priest Don Pierluigi”. The mayor Ottavio De Martinis immediately canceled the celebrations of the electoral victory scheduled for yesterday evening, proclaiming a day of citizen mourning. Inevitable the thought turned to DC di Montesilvano, husband of the woman of Cuban origins, RGJ and father of the 10 year old girl. «A very sweet, beautiful and happy student», are the tear-broken words of Roberta Martorella, head teacher of the Ignazio Silone Comprehensive Institute, where the little girl had just finished the fourth year of primary school. «We cannot understand the reason for all this – continues Principal Martorella – her smile will remain indelible in my memory, which I will always remember in a drawing that she herself dedicated to me».
THE SPORT
Dad and mum, twice a week after school, accompanied their daughter to the Karate Sport Center gym in Montesilvano. «A little girl who put a lot of effort into this sport – says teacher Emanuele Nicolosi -, I am shocked by this news. On June 30th she should have taken the exams to obtain the orange belt, we will award it to her in her memory.” Her mother, RGJ, was proud of her. On social media they were always together, with lots of hugs and kisses in the videos and photos that she published smiling. There were no traces of discomfort, melancholy. In her many shares, it emerges that she was passionate about music and films. Her idol was the Chinese actor-singer Zhang Zhehan. The happiness expressed on the web, with cheerful and carefree videos, does not coincide, however, with the reality that the woman lived deep inside, who knows how long a dark malaise had been harboring for which it was devouring her to the point of inducing her to drag her daughter with her towards death little girl. Yesterday the bodies were returned to the family for the funeral which has not yet been scheduled. We are thinking of a secular ceremony to remember them.
