Here it is, suddenly. Squarer and longer than expected, with a design reminiscent of the 80s model invented by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Just under a month after the official debut (11 July in Turin, on the occasion of Fiat’s 125th anniversary), the brand has released the first images of the Big Pandathe new compact B-segment destined to complement the current thermal Panda (now renamed “Pandina” to avoid confusion, produced in Pomigliano until at least 2029). The new five-door will arrive in the coming months with electric and hybrid engines, paving the way for a series of new models, which Fiat will launch at a rate of one per year between now and 2027.
Designed in Italy at the Turin Style Centre, the Fiat Grande Panda stands out from other B-segment cars for its compactness (3.99 metres, lower than the segment average of 4.06 metres): it is characterized by simple lines and by a structure that appears robust and structured, giving strength to its originality while the dynamic and incisive design of the bodywork is generated by very taut profile lines. The side shows the writing Panda in bas-relief, as well as other details that refer to Pandino, from the uprights to the rectangular optical groups made up of opaline cubes inspired by the windows of the Lingotto.
Like its younger sister, the Grande Panda also aims to remain above all a practical car, an aspiration confirmed by the roof bars. Fiat has not yet made official where it will be produced, but it is certain that it will be built in the Kraguijevac plants, in Serbia. And it will use the same platform on which the new Citroën C3 was born (produced in Trnava, Slovakia). A detail, the latter, which allows us to hypothesize that the electric version of the Grande Panda could have 113 HP and over 300 km of autonomy, like its French sister, while the hybrid is a candidate to host a 100 HP three-cylinder 1.0 to bring the starting price of the hybrid version (still unofficial) below 18,000 euros.
