“Hospital cards not applied, understaffing of staff, widespread burnout, shortage of general practitioners. And it never comes out. Beyond the ideological proclamations on autonomy, we should have the intellectual honesty to admit that in many sensitive sectors for the lives of citizens, where autonomy is already a fact, starting from healthcare, there already exists an unbridled centralism where the problems are never addressed. It is the centralism of the regions. With the consequence that inequalities have increased drastically, suffice it to say that in many cases only those who have the economic availability to go to the private sector can access healthcare in a timely manner. How long do you have to wait for a cataract?”. The regional councilor of the Democratic Party is not subtle, Anna Maria Bigon, responding to the statements of the President of the Region Luca Zaia regarding the parliamentary protest of the opposition.

“Differentiated autonomy will increase imbalances between regions by rewarding the few and discriminating against the fragile – continues Bigon – both with regards to the environment, work and above all school. Education cannot be differentiated from region to region, with different programs, different teacher salaries and differentiated supports. We will have public schools for the marginalized and private, subsidized schools for the wealthier.”

And he concludes: “And please, leave aside the German Landers which are a completely different story and a completely different overall plan that have nothing to do with the differentiated autonomy proposed and carried out with majority blows by the Italian right”.
