“The second half has begun: a decisive time for the future of what is the second city and the first industrial district of this province.” With these words the centre-left mayoral candidate, Susanna Cenni, comments on the results of the first round while she is already working in preparation for the run-off.
“I never thought – he adds – that the result was a given. Presumption does not belong to me and having experienced an open electoral campaign among the people has made us aware of the appreciations and the critical issues. Both these dimensions are transformed into votes, into signals to be taken into consideration and interpreted, starting from the assumption that voters must always be listened to and respected”.
For many years, moreover, in politics there has no longer been a time for self-sufficiency and Poggibonsi is no different. The right is in government in the country and other nearby and similar municipalities – from Colle Val d’Elsa to Pontedera, passing through Empoli – are facing run-offs, although with little margin.
“These results – adds Cenni – are responded to with awareness, humility and the will to understand and recover. Starting from that 49% of consensus which is an important figure for the Democratic Party, for the “Futura” civic list which was born in largely from the participation process and for Uniti per Poggibonsi. I thank them all for the great work done and which is still ongoing. I am happy – adds the candidate – to have contributed to the good result of many young people under 30 who, if we win, will win. will enter the City Council and to see among the elected representatives an important representation of Staggia Senese as evidence of our attention for the entire territory. I am also very happy with the collegiality, the positive teamwork that has characterized these months: the commitment of many volunteers, generous women and men who, alongside the parties, represented our project and fueled such a participatory campaign”.
“This is the moment – comments Cenni again – to open ourselves up even more to discussion, dialogue with those who have decided not to go and vote and, above all, with the electorate who did not choose us and who thus wanted to give us clear signals, but which culturally and from a value point of view are not recognized in the right. I think there are issues of common interest on which a dialogue is possible and desirable, we have read it in the programs, we have heard it in the weeks we have been there. confronted even when differences prevailed. The following are important points of our programmatic work: the defense of public, universal, territorial healthcare; public schooling and access to training for all; civic participation through well-defined tools, from consultations neighborhood to the development pact; the role of energy communities and the opportunities represented by the ecological transition; the revitalization of the center and neighborhoods also as a tool to promote safety. We will work on this, patiently, every day. Asking our voters to vote again and asking those who care about the city’s future to support us on this journey.”
