Ten bilateral meetings and a public speech will mark Pope Francis’ participation in the G7 tomorrow, Friday 14 June, which opened today in Borgo Egnazia, Puglia. The Holy See Press Office made this known this morning, disseminating the program of the visit prepared by the Prefecture of the Papal Household.

The Pope will leave at 11 am from the Vatican heliport to land after about an hour and a half in the sports field of the town in the Brindisi area which is currently hosting the informal intergovernmental group of seven economically advanced countries.

First part of bilaterals

Welcomed by the President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic Giorgia Meloni, the Pontiff will move by golf car to the reserved residence, where a first block of bilateral talks is planned with Mrs. Kristalina Georgieva, general director of the International Monetary Fund ), and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of the Republic of Ukraine; Emmanuel Macron, president of the French Republic; and Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada.

The Pope’s intervention

Subsequently, the Italian Prime Minister Meloni will officially welcome the Pope in the court of Borgo Egnazia, who will participate in the joint session in the Arena Hall, giving his speech. The other interventions will then follow.

Other bilateral meetings

In the second part, starting around 5.30pm, the official photo of all the participants is expected to introduce a further session of bilateral meetings with Messrs. William Samoei Ruto, President of Kenya; Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India; Joseph Biden, President of the United States of America; Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil; Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Türkiye; and Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic of Algeria.

At the end, the helicopter with the Pope on board will take off from the Borgo Egnazia sports field towards the Vatican heliport, where the landing should take place around 9.15pm.
