It all started with an argument over a poorly closed refrigerator door. Separated in fact, but “forced” to be together to manage a place, they started arguing, during opening hours, because she, a 45-year-old local woman, complained to him that he had not done so the night before, as he should have done. , close the sliding freezer door tightly.
Verbal aggression
The man, a 39-year-old from Giarre, began to verbally attack the woman who managed, just in time, to get her mother, who was also present, away, by having a customer accompany her home.
The threats, “I’ll cut you piecemeal”
The victim, left alone to face the man, saw him deliberately dropping anything he found in his path, also intimidating the customers present. The woman’s indifference to such behavior must have greatly annoyed the man who, having gone to the bathroom, returned showing the woman his backpack and, opening it, showed her a manual pruning saw, threatening her: “You I’ll cut it off bits and pieces and put you in the freezer.” Immediately after her he dropped the display of chewing gum packets and the accounting invoices and, while she picked them up, in addition to insulting her heavily he said to her: “fuck it, move on, get it right now”.
Intimidated by this attitude, the 45-year-old locked herself in the toilet where, in the meantime, she could hear loud noises of objects being thrown into the air. When she came out of the bathroom, she actually found broken chairs, crushed fruit on the floor and many other shattered objects.
Accompanied to the barracks by a retired policeman client
Terrified by what was happening, the unfortunate woman walked away from the bar, accompanied to the barracks by a retired soldier from the Army, a customer of the club, who met her, in those excited moments, near the exit.
A policeman reached the premises
At the time, a soldier from the Fiumefreddo station, free from duty and in the area, in coordination with the operations center, quickly reached the room where he found the 39-year-old with clear signs of a struggle. In fact, from the reconstruction of the incident the soldier learned that shortly before, at the moment in which the attack against the victim took place, her sister and her boyfriend had also shown up. The latter, in defense of his sister-in-law, had engaged in a violent fight with the 39-year-old and then left in turn with his partner.
Found intent on closing the business, the 39-year-old showed sudden outbursts of anger in the presence of the policeman who intervened, throwing tools and various materials in the air. A few moments later, colleagues from the Fiumefreddo station arrived and identified and secured the man, then proceeded to search the bar. In the bathroom they actually found, contained in a backpack, the manual pruning saw with a total length of 43 cm and a 24 cm blade with which he had previously seriously threatened his ex.
The 39-year-old, during these phases of the investigators’ activity, repeated heavy threats several times: “now I’ll set it on fire, since the place is mine, you can attack me, I’ll kill her, I’ll burn her car”.
In the meantime, having reached the barracks, the woman, reassured by the soldiers, told them that the episode that had occurred a few minutes earlier represented only the tip of the iceberg of a series of episodes, which had occurred in the past, in which she had been the object of the bullying. and the 39-year-old’s continuous and unmotivated requests for money. The 45-year-old, moreover, found herself forced to suffer such attitudes due to the joint management of the commercial activity, despite the fact that they had been separated as a couple for some time.
The man’s arrest and prison
The military personnel seized the tool and made the man available to the judicial authority which, having validated the arrest, ordered him to be placed in prison at the Catania prison in Piazza Lanza where all ‘now it remains.
