“Worker died in work accident in Canicattì”, 3 convictions requested

The deputy prosecutor Gaspare Bentivegna made the request for conviction against three of the five defendants involved in the investigation resulting from the death of Giuseppe Gioacchino Bordonaro, 52 years old, a worker who died in 2014 in an accident at work on a construction site in Canicattì. The public prosecutor requested 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment for Antonio Ferraro, 63 years old, Roberto Lauricella Donisi, 55 years old, Giovanni Garlisi, 44 years old. The charge is manslaughter. For two other defendants – Maria Grazia Cuva, 60 years old, and Gioacchino Caracciolo, 48 years old – acquittal was proposed. The first was accused of manslaughter while the second, a colleague of the victim, was accused of aiding and abetting for lying about Bordonaro’s presence on the construction site.

The story dates back to June 2014. The worker, who also turned out to be illegal, flew from the roof of the construction site and fell to the ground. Almost a month later, on July 16, he died in Messina hospital. The owner of the company was also accused of simulating a crime because, according to the accusation, he hid the circumstance of the accident at work from the doctors by instead declaring that the worker had been hit by a van. We return to the courtroom on June 26, in front of judge Michele Dubini, for the beginning of the speeches of the defense represented by the lawyers Giovanni Salvaggio, Daniela Posante, Giuseppe Giardina, Dino Milazzo.
