Five defendants from Canicattì are on trial before the Court of Agrigento: Maria Grazia Cuva, 59 years old, Antonio Ferraro, 62 years old, Roberto Lauricella Donisi, 54 years old, Giovanni Garlisi, 43 years old, and Gioacchino Caracciolo, 47 years old, who respond, to various titles, of manslaughter, simulation of crime, personal aiding and abetting, illegal construction and violation of legislation on safety at work. According to the Agrigento prosecutor’s office, the death at work of a worker, Giuseppe Gioacchino Bordonaro, 52 years old, was hidden when Garlisi, owner of the company carrying out the work relating to an illegal construction, told the doctors at the “Barone Lombardo” hospital of Canicattì of having hit Bordonaro with his van, who would have been working illegally, caught in the street collecting weeds. Well, a large part of the charges are now barred. And the public prosecutor, Gaspare Bentivegna, at the conclusion of the indictment, invoked the sentence on the hypothesis of manslaughter for only three defendants to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment each. The three are Lauricella Donisi as owner of the company entrusted with the works, Ferraro, considered the owner and client of the works, and Garlisi, owner of the executing company. The accident occurred in Canicattì in the Montagna-via Forlì district on 24 June 2014. Bordonaro was transferred to Messina hospital where he died on 16 July.
