Municipality of Avezzano, new press release issued through the institutional website: Prevention is better than cure and, in the case of forest fires, it is also better than having to then intervene, with heavy costs, to restore safety and devastated places – specifies the online note. With this objective, therefore, the Mayor of Avezzano, Giovanni Di Pangrazio, signed the ordinance to prevent forest fires which will come into force from 15 June until 15 October – The ordinance provides requirements and prohibitions to ensure that avoid dangerous lines, which can then endanger the woods and the safety of people and things – reads the online note on the official web portal. All owners in any capacity of woods, land, meadows, pastures and uncultivated lands, especially if bordering public areas, must work to avoid the possible onset and spread of fires – specifies the online note. They are therefore obliged to adopt the following prevention measures: a) Perimeterization through plowing for a five meter strip (10 meters if adjacent to railway lines) and clearing of wheat sheaves, foliage, shrubs and other combustible material on: land on which stubble is found, other easily flammable herbaceous and/or shrubby plant material that borders woods and/or transit routes; land cultivated with cereals after the harvest; uncultivated land – specifies the press release. b) Carrying out all stubble burial operations; c) Clearing of herbaceous and shrubby vegetation (with the exception of species present in the municipal territory and protected by national, community and regional laws) of wooded areas bordering roads and other transit routes, to a depth of at least five metres; d) Cleaning by the bodies concerned of the herbaceous and shrubby vegetation (with the exception of the species present in the municipal territory and protected by national, community and regional laws) present along the road, motorway and railway slopes – reads the online note on the official web portal . The owners and possessors in any capacity of the land falling within the aforementioned cases will be held responsible for damages that occur due to their negligence or failure to comply with the instructions given – reads the online note on the official web portal. IT IS ALSO FORBIDDEN: lighting fires, setting off mines, using flame or electric devices to cut metals, using engines, stoves or incinerators that produce sparks or embers, smoking in places with a high fire risk, in the Monte Salviano Reserve and pine forest, or carry out any other operation that may in any case create a fire hazard; the lighting and launching of fireworks, so-called Chinese lanterns, the shooting of firecrackers, the explosion of firecrackers, rockets and other pyrotechnic devices, unless specially authorized (art. 57 RD n. 773/1931); park on meadows and in the woods for drivers of cars equipped with catalytic converters; in public or private landfills and/or in waste treatment plants present in the area, keep the waste susceptible to combustion; any fires that may arise must be immediately extinguished by the manager of the landfill or waste treatment plant and/or by the owner of the site; within the limit of 200 meters from the extreme edge of the forest, light fires; throw matches from moving vehicles , cigars or lit cigarettes – Anyone also has the obligation to comply with the above requirements and to collaborate in reporting and intervention activities – states the text published online. Anyone who has news of a fire in the countryside or in the woods has the obligation to immediately notify the Municipal Civil Protection Service – COC from Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.
