Since October 2022 he has been Minister of Culture, but before Gennaro Sangiuliano he had a very long experience in Rai, where he held prominent positions, first as deputy director of Tg1 for around 9 years and then as director of Tg2 for 4 years. Yet the minister does not count professional experience in public service as something positive: “When I was in Rai I was censored daily“.
The words of Minister Sangiuliano on Rai
These are words that Sangiuliano pronounced during his speech at the conference “Towards the G7: Risks and Opportunities”. The minister, who in particular over the years at the helm of Tg2 expressed an editorial line very close to the positions of what would become the current centre-right majority, added: “I have always been a critical spirit by nature and I have fought battles in this sense.” Gennaro Sangiuliano then added a disdainful comment on the public service and on the apparently swampy context that characterizes the environments of the country’s first cultural company: “Rai is an expression of the pasteurization of thought, of banality made into thought. Any critical thought was censored.”

A company on which Sangiuliano intends to impact with his action, given that he had spoken about public service in one of his first public outings as minister, stating that he was aiming for a Rai in which to reaffirm a “strong and authoritative right-wing thought that the left has always wanted to hide”.

On that occasion, in an interview with the Giornale, Sangiuliano also spoke to the distribution of cinema funds: “The disbursement of these funds was absolutely unilateral: films were financed that were consistent with a certain cultural narrative of Italian society, the nation and the world. I, on the other hand, want a plural culture. As Marcello Veneziani says, we need to break the hood Everyone must have equal dignity to express themselves: I don’t want to replace a left-wing hegemony with a substitutive operation, but I want to add that someone wants to make a film about D’Annunzio or Pirandello, they must be able to do so freely”.
