Naples, hunt for the killer boat that killed a tourist on a kayaking trip

The search for the vessel that hit a couple aboard a kayak in the sea of Posillipo yesterday afternoon has been extended to the entire Gulf of the Campania capital. The two were sailing near the body of water in front of the presidential residence Villa Rosebery when they were thrown into the water due to the impact. The one who lost her life was a thirty-year-old girl from Lombardy who was on an excursion with a young Neapolitan lawyer. Traces of the woman were immediately lost, probably already seriously injured by the impact. The man, however, remained afloat and was rescued shortly afterwards by another vessel from which the alarm was then raised. Research by the Port Authority made it possible to identify the victim’s lifeless body shortly afterwards, and a short distance from the site of the impact: her name was Cristina Frazzica, she was originally from Lombardy, and had been on holiday in the city for a few days.

Search operations

The information provided by the surviving lawyer will be fundamental to shed light on the tragedy and it is not excluded that an important contribution to the investigations could also come from the images of the video surveillance systems of the presidential residence which, as is known, for security reasons, also monitor the sea in front of the villa. The search operations for the killer vessel, coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor’s Office (substitute prosecutor Vincenzo Toscano), began yesterday afternoon. The alleged crimes are manslaughter and failure to provide aid and the operations were finalized this morning during a specific briefing in which the magistrate also took part.
According to initial information, the kayak would have been hit by an unidentified vessel which was proceeding southwards from the north, probably in the direction of the Neapolitan moorings of Mergellina and Naples. But it cannot be ruled out that it was also directed to the piers further south of the capital. The investigators and the judicial police, the Port Authority, are also looking for the testimonies of those who may have seen the disaster, which cost Cristina her life. The investigators have launched an appeal to anyone in possession of useful information which can be communicated anonymously to the number 1530 or 0812445308, also via WhatsApp.

The piers and moorings are being searched

The investigators are searching the piers and moorings and the owners of the structures that welcome the boats have already been interviewed. It cannot be ruled out that the imboattion can be identified shortly, as well as who was on board, who decided not to stop despite the impact, perhaps condemning the thirty-year-old to death. In the place where it occurred there is a sort of curve in the sea which makes identifying any obstacles more complicated, especially if the bow is raised due to the high speed. The regret remains that perhaps, if she had been helped promptly, Cristina could have been saved. However, only the autopsy will be able to provide certain data on the extent and severity of the injuries sustained. On the young woman’s Instagram profile there remains a video posted shortly before the tragedy: images, taken from the sea, of a villa set for Un Posto al Sole, with the soundtrack of the Rai drama
