The Abruzzo Journalists’ Union expresses its condolences for the death of Franco Farias, doyen of Abruzzo journalism, long one of the best-known faces of Rai’s regional information, former secretary of the Abruzzo union and councilor of the Abruzzo journalists’ association. Roles that testify to his commitment to the progress of the category, always carried forward with generosity. But above all, Franco Farias was a leading exponent of Abruzzo culture, also as an essayist, historian, literary critic and musical expert. Worth remembering is his book on the history of Abruzzo gangs, co-written with Francesco Sanvitale. Always close to the Flaiano International Awards, he has supported its activity over the years. In Rai he had entered the program structure of the Abruzzo branch, then moving on to the journalistic editorial team of Tgr, until he held the position of head of service, always particularly attentive to cultural themes. Among his most significant journalistic contributions is the long video interview with Domenico Troilo on the history of the Maiella Brigade. In 2014 he, with proud origins from Loreto Aprutino, received the Ciattè d’oro award, awarded by the Municipality of Pescara to personalities of particular civic and cultural value. The affectionate embrace of the Abruzzo Journalists Union goes to his wife Carmela and his children Edmondo and Alessandra, a journalist. The funeral chapel will be set up tomorrow, from 9am, in the chapel of the Francavilla al Mare cemetery. The funeral will take place on Tuesday 11 June 2024.
