Gas cylinders connected to the domestic system explode in the absence of the tenants, no one injured, investigations underway to determine the causes of the fire
PRAI A MARE (CS), 10 JUN 2024 – In Praia a Mare, in the Cosenza area, a series of explosions shattered the sleep of the inhabitants, marking an event fortunately without serious consequences but full of tension and fear. Three gas cylinders suddenly caught fire on the terrace of a modest two-storey building, causing minor damage to the structure but, miraculously, causing no injuries.
The accident occurred around 3 in the morning, when the tranquility of the neighborhood was disturbed by a thunderous roar coming from one of the balconies on the upper floor of the building. Fortunately, the apartment where the explosions occurred was empty at the time of the tragic event. The family that occupied it, coming from the nearby region of Campania and arriving on site for a short holiday, had returned to their homeland just the previous day.
On the contrary, the owner of the property, a skilled local craftsman, was in his home on the lower floor and reported only the scare as the only personal “damage”. His quick reflexes, in fact, led him to react promptly to the sound of explosions, allowing him to move away from the imminent danger in time.
The local authorities, including a team of firefighters from the Scalea detachment and the carabinieri from the local station, intervened quickly on the scene to manage the emergency and start investigations into the causes of the incident. According to what has been reported, at the moment no elements emerge that could suggest a malicious act; rather, it seems that the gas cylinders, regularly connected to the system to power the apartment, suffered sudden and uncontrolled overheating, causing the explosion.
