The XV edition of the festival “Of the Story, the Film – DRIFFest 2024” part tomorrow at 7.30 pm from Mola di Bari, in the Cloister of Santa Chiarawith an evening entitled “Of the Story, the Family”. The protagonist at the beginning is the writer Romana Petri with his novel “Everything about us”.
Marzia, “with a martial gait”, talks about herself with fury, violence, shamelessness. She is a first person who bites and moves within the asphyxiating space of a sick, terrible, bad family. She grows up on the outskirts of Rome, with a cruel and cowardly father and a mother who is devoted, to the point of heartbreak, to an unfaithful spouse. While her brother, headphones on his ears, becomes estranged to the point of her indifference, Marzia fights, and nothing of hers is spared. She educates her dry physique in Greco-Roman wrestling and learns to put the barrier of her body between herself and the world. But it’s not enough. She cannot escape the conflict, the spider strategy that father and mother, in different ways, weave around her.
Immediately afterwards it will be the turn of Mercythird film directorial by Emma Dante (four nominations for the Nastri d’Argento 2024), a film that “it tells of a squalid reality, steeped in poverty, illiteracy and provincialism, it explores the hell of a terrible degradation, increasingly ignored by society. It tells of the fragility of women, the violence that continues to be perpetuated against them, their desperate and boundless loneliness. Three women live in a shack inside a seaside village made up of a series of rough stone huts placed side by side; behind the huts, amidst rubbish and wreckage, a majestic mountain stands out”. At the end of the screening, Emma Dante (streamed) and the actors of the film Tiziana Cuticchio and Simone Zambellipresent in Mola, will meet the public.
The festival continues with the screening of the film Very sweet by Francesco Ghiaccio, Friday 14 June at 8.30pm, in the amphitheater of Municipality 3, in the San Paolo district of Bari. “Of the Tale, the weight of the Victories” will be the first appointment within the project Community civic spaces.
“Of the Story, the Film”, organized by the Cooperativa Sociale I Bambini di Truffaut, with the artistic direction of Giancarlo Visitilli, from 11 June to 27 July it unfolds through 27 events between Bari, Giovinazzo, Sannicandro di Bari and Mola di Bari, with four meetings in the prisons (it is the only Apulian festival to host it every year) of Trani and Turi.
