One dead, one seriously injured and five other people, including two children, taken to hospital. This is the outcome of the dramatic accident that occurred between three cars on the outskirts of Rome, in Lariano, on the afternoon of Sunday 9 June. Vincenzo Dorascenzi, 86 years old and resident of Paliano, lost his life, as he was returning home in his Fiat Panda which on impact hit a Jeep Renegade carrying a family.

The firefighters, the 118 personnel and the Carabinieri of Lariano and the Velletri company were on site. The accident occurred around 4.30pm in via Ariana 331, between via Redina Ricci and via Arcioni.

The crashes for causes still under investigation were a Fiat Panda, driven by Vincenzo Dorascenzi who died instantly, a Jeep Renegade with a family and two children on board, all taken to Ariccia hospital under yellow code and a Mercedes with driving a 51-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman. The driver was airlifted to San Camillo, she to Velletri hospital under yellow code.

During the impact, the Fiat Panda hit the Jeep. The road was blocked for three hours. Upon hearing the news of Mr. Dorascenzi’s death, Paliano went into mourning. “Kind and friendly person, always smiling and helpful. The sky has gained a new angel, the earth has lost a wonderful person. Have a good trip up there among the stars, dearest Vincenzo”, the message on Facebook from Fabrizio, a friend.

65 deaths on the roads

There have been 65 deaths on the roads of Rome and Lazio since the beginning of the year. Before Vincenzo Dorascenzi, a twenty-year-old of Spanish nationality had lost his life, in Rome for Erasmus, he died when he was hit on Via Appia Nuova, near Via Pizzo di Calabria, in the Capannelle area. The accident occurred shortly after 4am on Sunday. He was overwhelmed by a Fiat 500 driven by a 22-year-old young man who stopped to provide first aid.

Even before that, on the morning of June 6th in Tor Tre Teste Gary Peconi, 45, lost his life in a road accident which occurred shortly after 4am on Via di Tor Tre Teste, near the Viale Enzo Ferrari roundabout.

Last June 4, however, Valter Grossi, a 65-year-old man, died after a collision involving a motorbike and two cars. The road tragedy, on that occasion, had occurred on the so-called slip road of the A24, towards Rome, between the Tor Cervara and Viale Togliatti exits.

Daniele Iammartino, however, died at the age of 33 after three days of agony in hospital. The man, father of a little girl, was hit by a car last June 3, between via Guglielmo Fioramonti and via Casilina, near the municipality of Labico at six in the morning.
