Yeman Crippa, favorite on the eve, respected the predictions and went on to claim the gold medal, Pietro Riva surprised everyone by winning the silver which is worth the Italian double by overtaking and “greeting” the German Amanal Petros on the final straight who thus he was forced to settle for the bronze medal.

Two more bronze medals arrived in the evening session, those of Catalin Tecuceanu in the 800 meters and that of Zaynab Dosso in the women’s 100 meters.

Yeman Crippa: “Happy for the victory at home, I want gold in the Paris marathon”

“I was excited to run here in Rome at home, especially the half distance which is a distance that I’m enjoying and I was happy to have run it here and to have confirmed the gold from two years ago. Today was tough, perhaps the climate and nervousness, but I’m happy to have brought it home. Now we move on”, said the Italian Yeman Crippa. “I had a little discomfort in my side during the match which then went away, I continued to do my race. Up until just before entering the stadium I was still under pressure, there were five of us there, then when I entered the stadium I I found myself more at ease”, continued Crippa on Rai Sport, specifying that “the results of the Azzurri the day before yesterday and especially yesterday even more made us understand that today we had to wake up. I had a burden on my shoulders. I had to do my part and bring home the medal. The medals from the day before stimulated us but also put us under pressure, a fair amount of pressure. Now I hope to do a great marathon at the Olympics, I’ll go to St. Moritz to prepare for it, a marathon that It might be within my reach.”

Pietro Riva: “Beaten by a friend, best moment of my career”

“It was the best moment of my career, beaten by a great friend like in Monaco two years ago and therefore happy that it was Yeman (Crippa, ed.) who won. I knew that I am better on the road than on the track, not I was coming off a great period, I was disheartened but, in short, during the race I felt great and I told myself that I could get the medal”, Pietro Riva told Rai Sport.
