AGI – The father of one of the hostages Israelis freed yesterday in Gaza after 8 months of captivity died “of a broken heart” just 24 hours before being able to see him again. As his family said, Yossi Jan had been desperately waiting all these months for news of his 22-year-old son Almog Meir Jan, who was at the Nova music festival when he was kidnapped.
“He was worried because he feared that Almog was in the hands of murderers and because of what he was going through,” his father’s sister told public broadcaster Kan. Over the course of these long months, his hopes rose and fell, he added, and in the end “it broke his heart.” The man, he said, died on Friday, alone at home, of cardiac arrest. It was her sister who found him when she went looking for him to give him the good news. “My brother died of grief and did not see his son return“, commented.
The funeral will be held this afternoon, with Almog present, the militant group the Forum on Hostages and Missing Families said. “Almog expresses her gratitude for the support and love, but requests privacy to mourn his personal loss,” the forum reads.
