Archive set on fire, offices evacuated – Pescara

QUILLS. Fear in the Penne Municipality headquarters yesterday afternoon. After 4pm, most likely due to a short circuit, a fire spread in the room where the archive of the central purchasing center’s tender room is located. The flames spread along the entire tunnel that houses the archives. The smoke also reached the offices of the technical and financial area which were promptly evacuated. The firefighters of the Penne detachment and the carabinieri of the Vestino center company intervened on site. It was also necessary to interrupt the conference on Margaret of Austria which was taking place at the time in the council chamber, in the Cloister of San Domenico. Many people gathered in the square to try to understand what was happening and to ask information from the local police officers who were working on the roads in Piazza Luca da Penne at the time.
“I thank the firefighters for their timely intervention,” said the mayor of Penne Gilberto Petrucci, «it could have really ended worse. The damage must currently be quantified”, the mayor said, “but user services are absolutely not at risk. I also thank the Prefect of Pescara, Flavio Ferdaniwho promptly called me to find out about the incident and to express the utmost support and closeness.”
The rooms of the technical office and the financial area were not affected by the flames, they were evacuated only to prevent employees from breathing the smoke. The firefighters’ operations lasted about an hour and a half. However, the inauguration of the new Portella car park was not postponed and was instead regularly held shortly after 6.30 pm in the presence of Mayor Petrucci himself.
