The bodies of Riccardo Latino and Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci, the two Air Force soldiers who died on Wednesday in a road accident on the Pollino road in Grosseto, were transferred yesterday to Gioia del Colle airport with a military flight, which left in the afternoon from Baccarini airport in Grosseto. The Air Force thus accepted the request of the families who expressed the desire to bury their loved ones in their respective places of birth. The fighter pilot Riccardo Latino will return to Matino, where he grew up with his family, and Francesco Antonio Guglielmucci will be transferred to Matera. The funeral will be celebrated in the next few days. The authorization for the transfer from magistrate Nuzzo, who is following the investigation, arrived yesterday morning. Both were on duty at the 36th Fighter Wing of Gioia del Colle and were in Grosseto to carry out specialization courses at the 4th Wing. Meanwhile, the families of the two soldiers arrived in the city yesterday. The 5 injured remain in hospital: two underwent surgery and are still in very serious conditions. The others are improving, both those hospitalized in Siena and the one at the Misericordia in Grosseto. The entire institutional and political world rallied around the Air Force after the death of the two soldiers. Yesterday the president of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, wished “a speedy recovery to the wounded and closeness to the families and to the entire Air Force body” for the serious loss that has struck them.

The Grosseto City Council wrote a letter to Filippo Monti, Commander of the 4th Wing. “The terrible news we received yesterday is one of those that we would never have wanted to hear and which has left us with profound dismay and sadness – writes Fausto Turbanti, Prime Minister –. In this very painful moment I express to you all our closeness, for to be able to overcome together, in the best possible way, if there is one, this enormous tragedy which will remain forever indelible in our minds and hearts. Our thoughts also go to the families, to whom we express our condolences for these serious losses”.
