Three years and six months of imprisonment to be served, at least initially, under house arrest: this is the sentence negotiated on Thursday in front of the Siena court – investigating judge Sonia Caravelli – by the 44-year-old of Tunisian origins AE, resident in Caltagirone (Catania). The man was accused of vehicular homicide and personal injury following the serious road accident that claimed his life on 17 June 2022 to the 37 year old Serena Ursillo, originally from Sant’Angelo Romano (Rome) and resident in Amelia (Terni), and to the 49 year old Enrica Macci, originally from Tivoli (Rome) and resident in Montefranco (Terni). The accident, which also injured three people, occurred along the A1 motorway at kilometer 414, between the Fabro and Chiusi junctions, in the province of Siena. The 44-year-old was also given the additional sanction of having his driving license revoked. The news was reported by Studio 3A-Valore Spa which assists Serena Ursillo’s family members. The accused, driving an Iveco General Trailer articulated lorry, “belatedly became aware of the blocked traffic”, due to the dismantling of a construction site, “and, despite the sudden braking implemented at the last moment, he was going to run over all the vehicles who preceded him in the lane.”
