Monte San Savino, 7 June 2024 – He had just spent an evening with his lifelong friends, his football team mates Uisp Arci Saione. First the match of the amateur cup final of the Romolo Brezzi tournament at the Arezzo municipal stadium, then a cheerful pizza party in a restaurant in the center and finally the return home to Albergo, in the municipality of Monte San Savino. But precisely in those few kilometers that separated him from his home he met his death. Domenico Dezzani65 years old, is died practically instantly in a road accident along the E78 between Monte San Savino and Arezzo. The collision occurred around midnight yesterday heading south in the municipality of Civitella in Valdichiana, between the Tegoleto and Alberoro exits. At that point there is a construction site with narrowing of the road. According to an initial reconstruction, still being examined by investigators, the accident was caused by a violent collision. Dezzani’s car, a Mercedes A class, was hit by a Peugeot 407 driven by a forty-year-old of foreign origin. Both cars ended up off the road and ended their journey in the bush on the side of the road.
It is not yet clear what may have caused the accident. The road is very dark and has been the subject of numerous reports to Anas due to the numerous construction sites there. The emergency rescuers intervened on site, in particular with the White Cross of Arezzo, the medical ambulance of Monte San Savino and the medical car of Arezzo. Unfortunately, upon their arrival, the health workers could only confirm that Dezzani had died. The forty-year-old was also injured, but not seriously. He was transferred to the San Donato hospital in Arezzo under yellow code. The legal findings were carried out by the carabinieri of the Arezzo company, with the soldiers of the Badia al Pino station. The firefighters had to work to make the road safe, with traffic remaining temporarily blocked for around three hours. Dezzani’s death left the Arezzo community where Domenico had lived for many years dismayed.
Originally from Asti, he had chosen to live in Tuscany with his wife. He had no children. Dezzani was a manager highly esteemed by the historic amateur club Arci Saione. He had been part of it for 12 years. Yesterday the team was involved in the final of the amateur cup at the stadium, which they lost 3 to 2. At the end of the match they treated themselves to a consolatory pizza, cheerfully planning the sporting future of the team. The president of the company, Gino Ciofini, traces a moving and heartfelt memory of it. There was a solid and lasting friendship between them. “He had this ability to be light-hearted, very friendly with everyone and capable of relating”, says Ciofini. “I was the one who asked him years ago to come and lend me a hand in the club. He willingly accepted and became a favourite. He knew how to be a locker room man as they say in jargon, he had the ability to be a point of reference for all the players and the group he will be greatly missed.” As per practice, toxicological tests were ordered for the driver of the Peugeot in hospital. Dezzani’s body is now in the mortuary rooms of the San Donato hospital in Arezzo, available to the judiciary. Doctor Taddei is in charge of it.
