At the Institute of Sports Medicine and Science of CONI, the reigning Olympic champion of the 20 km was subjected to a test session with the AlterG ANTI, an anti-gravity treadmill with pneumatic technology with the function of uniformly and comfortably dosing a lifting force to the athlete’s body and reduce the impact on joints and muscles during the specific sporting gesture of walking.
“We are checking to see what point of recovery he has reached physiologically too – explains the Italian technical director Antonio La Torre –. From a clinical-orthopedic point of view, the situation has definitely improved, but in order to move onto the road with precise reference speeds, this incremental step test at 90% of the body weight load is needed. This machine removes gravity and allows you to work with strong physiological commitment while partially protecting the injured area. Then we will run more tests to get very precise data for the next 55 days. We can say we are at the starting line of the Olympic race”.
For his part, Stano expects to recover quickly Paris 2024: “I have always been optimistic. The day after the injury I prepared myself for recovery. I feel good: clearly I’m a little behind in my preparation and unfortunately I will miss the European Championship in Rome, but I can say that I’m recovering. For two weeks I have been working from 8am to 7pm at the ‘Giulio Onesti’ Olympic Preparation Center of CONI: I am very happy with what we are doing, it has all been invaluable in speeding up my return to walking”. In closing, a message for the national team teammates involved in the European Championships at home: “Unfortunately I won’t be there, but whoever is in my place and all the other Italians will give their all.
