Preparatory meeting for the “Lions Youth Exchange” program

Event in Matera for families and young participants

Around the world, thousands of young people are preparing to participate in Lions International’s Youth Exchange program and Youth Camps. On Sunday 9 June 2024, at the Ratzinger Hall in Piazza S. Agnese in Matera, a meeting will be held for the families of the young people who will leave and for those who will host the foreign children. The event will begin at 9:30 am and will be hosted by Maria Martino, Officer in charge of Youth Exchanges and Youth Camps of Lions District 108 YA, together with the committee leaders.

The program of the meeting includes the greeting of the Lions and Leo authorities present, the presentation of the “Lions Youth Exchange” program, suggestions and recommendations to the departing children and host families, the verification of the travel programs and the delivery of the material prepared by the MD 108 Italy.

There are 27 children selected to go abroad, of which 60% are females and 40% are males. Destinations include Austria, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Indonesia, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, United Kingdom, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, Hungary, USA IOWA and USA ARIZONA.

The sixty-year-old Lions Youth Exchange program offers young people ages 16 to 21 the opportunity to stay abroad with a Lions family and then attend a youth camp. This experience aims to promote mutual understanding between young people of different nationalities, cultures and religions, promoting peace and harmony.

In the meantime, some Italian families are preparing to welcome foreign children who, after living with them, will participate in Camp Vesuvius, organized by the Lions of District 108YA, which includes Campania, Basilicata and Calabria.
