The initiative “Sea Trains” was created to improve rail connections between Lombardy and Liguria, particularly during the summer months, to facilitate access to the beaches without the stress of road traffic. The service, which includes additional trains on weekends and holidays, was implemented for the first time a few years ago and has seen considerable success, so much so that it has been proposed and expanded every year. For 2024, the offering has been further enhanced thanks to the collaboration between Trenitalia, Trenord and the regions of Lombardy and Liguriaensuring connections from March 30th to September 29th.
How to organize yourself for departure
When preparing your bag and backpack to go to the seaside by train, it is important to think about practicality and ease of transport. Opting for a lightweight, foldable beach bag is a good choice, as it takes up little space when not in use. Be sure to include beach essentials like a microfiber towel, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a change of swimsuit.
To stay hydrated and have something to munch on, bring reusable water bottles and some light snacks, such as dried fruit or energy bars. Don’t forget a waterproof case for your cell phone and maybe a good book or magazine to pass the time, whether on the train seats or under the umbrella.
It is preferable for the backpack to be equipped with various compartments to better organize objects and keep them separate. Bring a light, comfortable change of clothes for the return journey. A small kit with wet wipes, sanitizing gel and garbage bags can be very useful for maintaining personal hygiene while traveling.

Service details
The “Sea Trains” are active until September 29th, every Saturday and on public holidays. These trains are in addition to those normally in service between Lombardy and Liguria, thus offering greater flexibility and capacity for travellers.

Trains are accessible with all tickets at supra-regional tariff, as well as with tickets for the respective regions of Lombardy and Liguria for internal routes. Ticket is also included “I travel everywhere in Lombardy” up to Tortona.
