Jean Alesi, in his fifth season at Ferrari, after a long wait, managed to snatch victory in Montreal. Ferrari was still in the fight for the constructors’ title and important points were needed to give a signal to the standings.
The Bergher-Alesi couple was unable to take flight, sportingly speaking. The same qualifying on the Gilles Villeneuve circuit rewarded the Benettons, while the Ferraris classified fourth and fifth. Alesi who up to that point, net of the withdrawals due to the technical and mechanical problems that the 412 T2 suffered during the 1995 F1 season.
In that race, consistency rewarded the unfortunate and never exuberant Jean Alesi, who achieved an indelible victory in the career of the French driver, perhaps too “overshadowed” by the comparison with The professor, Alain Prost. Bergher and Schumacher, ahead of the Frenchman, encountered problems at the pit stop, which favored Jean Alesi’s escape ahead of everyone.
Alesi’s victory gives hope to Ferrari which jumped to the top of the constructors’ standings, before being the victim of breakdowns and unfortunate accidents which could have made that season sunnier for the little horse. So Jean Alesi celebrates his 31st birthday, on parade aboard Schumacher’s Benettondue to low fuel on the 412 T2.
