Urban Agenda: yesterday the delivery, once the works were completed, of the energy redevelopment works in the school buildings of Spirito Santo and via Milelli
“We are at the fourth Urban Agenda work completed and delivered and we will move forward quickly. The path to using the resources of the Urban Agenda does not stop here because we will deliver other works in the coming weeks, once again overturning the cliché according to which it would not be possible to spend European funds in the South. We not only manage to spend it, but we also spend it well and then, a non-negligible fact, we complete the works, we don’t leave them unfinished”. Mayor Franz Caruso stated this in expressing his satisfaction with the delivery, once the works were completed, of the energy requalification works which concerned both the “Spirito Santo” comprehensive institute and the primary school complex in via Milelli which part of the “Bonaventura Zumbini” comprehensive institute. Mayor Franz Caruso, due to concomitant and undeferrable commitments, was unable, as he had planned, to attend yesterday the demonstration for the delivery of the completed works, organized at the invitation of the Headmaster of the “Spirito Santo” comprehensive institute Massimo Ciglio, for also seal the end of the school year with a concert by the choir and the Young School Orchestra held in the school garden and which had the theme “Sounds from cinema and beyond”. “Yesterday I was unable to convey my greetings and that of the municipal administration to the school and its director Massimo Ciglio – added Franz Caruso – but I cannot fail to express my satisfaction for the excellent work carried out, with a view to the redevelopment energy of two historic schools in the city which represent two symbolic places of as many important districts of the historic centre. The interventions that have been completed, both at the Spirito Santo Institute and in the school in via Milelli, are a significant piece of the path that the municipal administration has undertaken and which is aimed at re-efficient and redevelop the other schools in the city as well in need of maintenance interventions, as well as guaranteeing, in the schools in which we have already intervened, conditions of absolute healthiness and safety within the school environments”.
At yesterday’s demonstration the municipal administration was represented by the councilor delegated to Agenda Urbana Francesco Alimena. “The two historic schools of Cosenza were chosen – said Alimena – which continue to represent two fundamental safeguards of the right to education for two popular districts of the city and which today, thanks to these interventions, look to the future with the awareness of being currently the two healthiest, safest and best redeveloped schools from an energy point of view in the entire city area. The intervention involving the Scuola dello Spirito Santo optimized the energy conditions of the complex, taking into account the need to use materials and techniques compatible with the type of historic building. The works concerned – Alimena further explained – regulatory compliance, thermal, electrical and lighting efficiency of the systems, the reduction of energy consumption and the creation of a video surveillance system. Thanks to our interventions, there will also be an improvement in the air quality, liveability, safety and healthiness of the school environments in the gym and auditorium. In the school in via Milelli, one of the first examples in which the reinforced concrete framework was experimented in Cosenza, the roof covering was arranged, extraordinary maintenance and insulation was carried out to guarantee internal environmental health. The existing lighting fixtures were replaced with other more energy efficient fixtures. The boilers were also replaced, with the construction of latest generation thermal power plants and the consequent modernization of the system”.
