Liguria Region, Alessandro Piana: “The organisation’s activities continue, no to mistrust”

In the morning session of the Liguria Regional Council, the debate began on motion 109 “No confidence in the president of the regional council” presented by minority councillors.

The interim president of the Liguria Region Alessandro Piana once again he reiterated the council’s united decision to continue institutional activity.

“The guarantor position of the Regional Council is based on the art. 27 of the Constitution and in the sense of responsibility – declared Piana -. Despite the climate created by some communication operators ready for preventive media condemnation – through moral and political lynching – the Liguria Region has demonstrated that it knows how to continue its activity and that of the bodies involved, without stopping. For a long time our region was identified mainly as a tourist destination for its historical and landscape treasures, leaving the potential for jobs and investments in the background. The reality today is very different and the numbers are clear: in the last three years Liguria has recorded record growth not only in tourism, but also in various key sectors of the country’s economic development in which it exceeds the national average”.

“In recent years – he continues – we have witnessed the completion of the coverage of the Bisagno stream in Genoa, works which could be even more effective with the completion of the spillway; we presented the new Genoa Dam which will allow further growth for the main national port. Not only that: among the major works in the field with the funds of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan we remember the new Galliera hospital, the Taggia hospital, the Erzelli hospital, the Felettino hospital and the redevelopment of the Dea di San Martino, the the Gaslini Institute and the Santa Corona hospital. Other fundamental interventions concern school and university structures, the Tirrenica tourist cycle route as well as the Region’s commitment to building the Fontanabuona tunnel and the Fincantieri sea tipping. For business support, between regional and community funds, we have made available 250 million euros more than the previous cycle until 2027. The same goes for the new 207 million rural development supplement which sees a central innovation for our farmers: preparing specific tenders for particular sectors and themes, an impossible circumstance in the old programming cycle. For the Ligurians, in 2023 the Region invested 2 million for the sports endowment and 19 million as a 60% share in favor of the Municipalities to allow the redevelopment of the sports facilities. Just as great attention was given to young people to support school training and specialization. Furthermore, from 2015 to today, interventions worth over 200 million euros have been carried out on almost 500 school buildings. These are just some examples of how the Council has enhanced the peculiarities of our territory, our coasts and our hinterland, supporting all communities over various years with resources and projects of various types. For this reason, it is crucial to guarantee administrative continuity, avoiding financial and social damage resulting from their interruption, aware that much has been done and there is still much to do. The centre-right majority is compact – at the service of all Ligurians, and not just those who voted for it by an overwhelming majority – in claiming a development model that has brought tangible results and in confirming trust in the democratically elected president”.
