Watch List: Arpa FVG continues its monitoring activity at regional, national and European levels

They are being performed in the Arpa FVG Laboratory the analyzes of pollutants foreseen by the Watch List relating to surface water collected in the Republic of Malta, waiting for the monitoring ones to arrive in the Republics of Estonia and Finland, and in various Italian regions.

The Watch List is a list of substances to be monitored in waters, established by Implementing Decision (EU) 2015/495 and updated every two years, whose presence could constitute a potential risk factor, but for which they are not yet available scientifically reliable information about their actual presence in ecosystems.

This is a regulatory evolution designed to proactively and flexibly address the continuous introduction of new molecules into the environment, designed to set up more widespread – but more expensive – monitoring only for emerging pollutants actually found in ecosystems.

A philosophy that has proven to be very effective, so much so that it has also been extended in the context of water intended for human consumption, with the introduction of Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/679, which established a first list of substances to be monitored in this matrix, including 17-betaestradiol and nonylphenol.

The Arpa FVG Laboratory, which has already accredited the methods used for the research of these molecules in accordance with the UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025 standard, is carrying out analyzes relating to samples taken in the Friuli area for the second consecutive year Venezia Giulia.

The continuous expansion of Arpa FVG’s national and international collaborations is a consequence of both the growing integration of environmental legislation in the European context and the level of excellence achieved by the structures of the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection.
