ROME JUNE 4 – “To Salvini, desperately seeking consensus among the pacifist electorate who is not fooled by those who have always supported the sending of weapons, the national rearmament race and the return to compulsory military conscription, not all that remains is to say stupid things against those who are pacifists with deeds and not with idle words. A pragmatic and mature pacifism, far from the caricatural antimilitarism evoked by Salvini: for the 5 Star Movement, armies and barracks are used to defend our freedom, our democracy, our Constitution which repudiates war, certainly not to lead us towards the Third War world – as the war-mongering policy always supported by the League is doing – nor to serve the arms lobby – to which Salvini’s League has always been linked: no one forgets the photo of Salvini holding a machine gun from a well-known Italian factory located in land of the Northern League”.
