«The star counter», by Sara Ramires della Baldassarre, wins the «Teresa Sarti Strada» award

800 euros in school supplies to the Tranese school.

A dream… realized, when Chiara from the Emergency School Office called to give the happy news: “This year we had no doubts. Every year we receive beautiful works for the Prize from schools all over Italy. And we are always in difficulty with the choice. When we read Sara’s “The Star Counter” we had no doubts, we all agreed. He’s first place!”

On Saturday 1 June, Sara Ramires of the 3rd P, of the “Baldassarre” secondary school in Trani, collected the prize for the “writings” section of the XIV school competition dedicated to the co-founder in the auditorium of the “M9 Museo del Novecento” in Mestre of Emergency, Teresa Sarti Strada, while her school received 800 euros to spend on teaching materials.

The “Teresa Sarti Strada” Award is aimed at all students of primary and lower secondary schools, who can participate with graphic, written, video or audio works. It was established to stimulate students’ interest in the most current social issues and involve them in a creative process of reflection, allowing them to express their vision of the world, starting from the values of peace, solidarity, human rights and social justice.

This year’s theme required a great commitment on the part of teachers, how can we fail to mention in this regard Sara’s Italian teacher, Francesco L’Erario, pupils to reflect on ‘The dream’ as a driving force for the realization of one’s ideals.

The 2023-2024 edition recorded the highest number of entries in the history of the Award: 73 primary schools and 74 lower secondary schools participated, with 131 graphic works, 122 written compositions and 104 videos, for a total of 3,495 female students and students involved from all over Italy.

The Italian School thus shows the sensitivity, intelligence and remarkable motivations of its protagonists, the girls and boys, which renew them in every task they face.

The story “The Star Counter” is the dream that keeps people together and focuses on the personal commitment and power of change of people of good will.

Sara Ramires loves to deal with her own fragility and that of the world around her and from this relationship she draws her strength which leads her to writing of great emotional sensitivity.

The student, accepting the prize, declared that “the protagonist of the story, a child, reminds us that hope, forgiveness, loving one another, love, are the beginning of that dream of Peace which seems distant but which In my opinion it can be achieved if we all believe in it. We have to go back to dreaming.”

And the Headmaster, Marco Galiano, for the occasion, was keen to underline: “Sara’s dream is made of concrete acts, of real actions that take place under the light of the stars, when people’s profiles become more uncertain and, precisely for this reason, more human. Promising, hoping, believing, waiting for the love of a distant father, are real gestures, they fill the lives of each of us, it’s just that we often forget about them. Sara was kind, as is her style, to remind us of this. And for this, as well as for everything else, I thank you on behalf of the entire school that you have honored with your great commitment and talent.”
