Israel-Hamas, Tel Aviv’s announcement on the agreement: latest news

Israel said yes to the agreement with Hamas for the release of the hostages proposed by the United States. Benjamin Netanyahu’s foreign policy advisor, Ophir Falk, confirms that Tel Aviv has accepted the framework of the agreement presented by Joe Biden, reiterating however that “there are many details to resolve”. “We accepted the deal, it’s not a good deal but we really want the hostages to be released,” he said in an interview with the Sunday Times.

There are a lot of details to work out“, he added, underlining that Israeli conditions, including “the release of the hostages and the destruction of Hamas as a genocidal terrorist organization”, have not changed. In his speech last Friday, the American president described the proposal as a plan in three phases presented by the Israeli government.

Herzog: “Full support for Netanyahu on agreement”

Israeli President Isaac Herzog declared his “full support” for Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposal for a hostage release agreement, thanking Joe Biden for his speech presenting the proposal on Friday and for his “continuing commitment to the release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza”.

“We must not forget – continued Herzog speaking today at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem – that for the Jewish tradition there is no greater commandment than to save prisoners and hostagesespecially if they are Israeli citizens that the State of Israel has not been able to defend, it is our intrinsic duty to bring them home within an agreement that preserves the security of the interests of the State of Israel.”

Herzog’s words come after that Far-right ministers Itamar ben Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich have threatened to abandon the coalition if Netanyahu continues to seek a deal with Hamas.
