Roland Garros, Arnaldi starts well but then collapses against Tsitsipas: the Greek wins and goes to the quarterfinals

The Italian tennis player had managed to snatch the first silk from the world number nine, coming close to taking a 2-0 lead. However, the Greek’s comeback cut short the legs of the Italian who lost 3-1.

Matteo Arnaldi’s French campaign is over. The Italian tennis player, number 35 in the world, tried to achieve another important success, but had to give up against the power of Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Greek came from behind to beat the Italian after a start that wasn’t up to his class. He eventually qualified for the Roland Garros quarterfinals by winning 3-1, 3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2, 6-2.

Arnaldi, after eliminating Andrey Rublev, ATP number 6, in the round of 32, without conceding a single set, was looking for another impressive result against another Top 10 player like Tsitsipas, number 9 in the world.

And the start of the blue had been perfect, good at hitting the Greek halfway through the set, breaking his serve and gaining the necessary length to be able to end the first set with the lead.

The return of Tsitsipas

The second set seemed to travel on the same wavelength as the first, with the Italian able to take the lead once again halfway through the set, but instead of closing out, with four wasted set points, he fell to the best. At 5-4 Tsitsipas was able to return to the match at the decisive moment, stealing the blue’s serve and taking it to a tie-break, which he later won 7-4.

From 2-0 to 1-2 it was a short step. The defeat in the second set cut Arnaldi’s legs and he immediately lost serve in the third set and did not seem to be as incisive as he was at the start of the match. Tsitsipas took advantage of this by taking the set in 46 minutes.

At 2-1 the blue player, instead of reacting, completely disappeared from the field, leaving the field to his opponent who ended the match with a 6-2.
