It was an accident that caused the death of Gaetano Li Voti, 92 years old, from Altofonte near Palermo.
The reconstruction of the tragedy
The elderly man was moving the car to store it in his garage. The car got stuck after encountering an obstacle along the way. To try to free it he used a jack trying to lift it but the tool used mainly to lift the car on one side to replace a tire had evidently not been positioned well. While he was trying to lift the car, the device used gave way and the man was stuck under the wheel.
Some residents of the area, neighbors of the elderly man, witnessed the accident. Those present tried to help and pulled him out from under the car but unfortunately the crushing injuries he suffered were too serious.
The 118 health workers and firefighters intervened on site, but the residents had already taken care of taking the man’s body from under the car. There was nothing that could be done for him. The 118 health workers were only able to confirm his death. After the medical examiner’s inspection, the body was returned to the family to celebrate the funeral.
The disastrous weekend
The weekend had already been marred, on Friday, by the death of an eighteen year old who crashed his motorbike into a pole along the road leading to Monte Pellegrino, it had been preceded by the death of a man from Palermo in another accident in Buseto Palizzolo and it had continued with a collision between several cars ended with the overturning of some and several injured along the state road 113 in the Trapani area
