It all started in January 2020 when Harry and Meghan Markle they suddenly announced that they wanted to step back in their role within the English royal family and that they would live between the United States and the United Kingdom. Since then, however, the Dukes of Sussex have always lived overseas, first in Canada and, later, in California, where they still live today. On rare occasions the two have returned to England together, while Harry has been present in London, even without the presence of his wife Meghan Markle, on other occasions. Precisely during one of his official trips to his homeland, Harry asked for a secret meeting with his father and brother.
Harry, the secret meeting with King Charles and William
The relationship that binds Harry of England to his father and brother William is certainly experiencing complicated years. For several years, in fact, meetings between the different members of the English Royal House have been very rare and, from what has transpired, also rather turbulent. The Duke of Sussex himself, in fact, said it in his controversial biography Spare of having asked for a secret meeting with King Charles and to the Prince of Wales, after the funeral of his grandfather Philip but that this moment of exchange of opinions did not go well: “In the end I saw them. Shoulder to shoulder, advancing towards me, they looked dark, almost threatening. Furthermore, they seemed tightly knit. My stomach sank. Usually they argued about something or another, but now they seemed to be in unison, in alliance. A thought came to me: wait, see you for a walk… or for a duel?”.
The Duke of Sussex described that secret meeting as a duel and recounted the negative feelings he felt on that occasion. Recently, however, Harry of England made a step forward in the relationship with the father, which according to Robert Hardman, a royal expert, can be seen as a turning point in their relationship – It is about the quick trip made by the Duke to England, after the announcement of his father’s illness: “I think the fact that he came was important , the fact that it was received was important, I think what encouraged the people in the palace and encouraged the king was the fact that we didn’t read or hear about it afterwards. He remained private ”.
In fact it seems that, even in his recent visit to London, on the occasion of the Invictus Games, it was Harry of England who refused to stay in one of the palaces of the English Crown, for security reasons, and not that it was his father who did not want to meet him.
Harry, the possible next meeting with his father
Harry and his father Charles of England have been living in a cold situation for some time but his recent reaction to the news of his father’s illness may have unblocked the situation, at least in part. According to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, in fact, the King is thinking of inviting the family of his youngest son to Balmoral this summer, as reported by the Mirror: “No doubt they were invited to Balmoral this summer.”
