Two Mountain climbers they are Valle d’Aosta died in an accident in the mountains while they were busy on the ridge that divides the East and North faces of the Monte Zerbion, above Champoluc (Aosta). The victims are Jean Daniel Pessionmember of the blue team of speed skiing in the World Cupand his girlfriend Elisa Arlian, cross-country ski instructor: both they were 27 years old.

This was made known by the Italian winter sports federation: “Over the course of his career, Jean Daniel Pessioni had achieved the best results in 2021, placing fifteenth in the final World Cup ranking, while at the World Championships he came 22nd in Vars in 2022. President Flavio Roda and the entire Federation express their condolences to the Pession family for this tragic misfortune.”

The air ambulance intervened later to the failure of the two climbers to return. The bodies were spotted by the crew of the Guardia di Finanza helicopter, equipped with equipment for detecting mobile phone signals, and unfortunately recovered lifeless along the North Face.

Research required the use of three helicopters: SA1, SA3 (with mixed Sav and Vvf crew) and Guardia di Finanza-Sagf. The recognition operations were entrusted to the Alpine Rescue Department of the Guardia di Finanza (Sagf) of Cervinia.
