ANCONA – Fear and traffic chaos on the A14. Luckily there are no serious consequences, but panic broke out this morning inside the Sappanico tunnel, in the stretch between the Ancona Sud and Ancona Nord toll booths, on the roadway towards Bologna which is currently closed to allow rescue operations.

The accident under the tunnel involved an LPG-fueled car driven by a 35-year-old who apparently felt ill and overturned, then the vehicle caught fire. The woman managed to save herself: she was taken to the Torrette hospital under code yellow. 118 sent an air ambulance and a crew from the Yellow Cross of Camerano to the scene, but the danger of serious injuries, as initially feared, was averted. The firefighters and the traffic police also intervened on the highway to put out the fire. The situation is under control, but the A14 northbound remains closed at the moment in the section affected by the accident, where long queues have formed that have reached two kilometres.
